Man Nabbed With Drugs After Stealing Vehicle On Long Island, Police Say

A man was arrested on Long Island for possession of drugs and criminal possession of stolen property after allegedly stealing a car and then being caught with drugs.

The incident took. place in Westbury around 1:40 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 11.

According to Nassau County detectives, officers responded to a call for a man going through a vehicle that was parked on Lennox Avenue. 

Officers checking the area spotted Elijah Augustin, age 28, of Brooklyn, enter a 2009 white Toyota Matrix and leave the scene in the car,  police said.

Officers located the car a short time later and discovered it to be stolen. Augustin was walking nearby and was placed under arrest. 

Police said during an investigation, officers located 75 small plastic bags containing a white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine. 

While being arrested, police found that Augustin was wanted on a warrant in Nassau County for a previous petit larceny, officers said.

Augustin was charged with:

  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree
  • Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree
  • Criminal possession of stolen property
  • Unauthorized use of a vehicle
  • Reckless driving
